My Aunt lives if Florida and sent me a pic of a wild duck they saw today with this strange growth on its bill. We both tried to look up what it could be but found nothing. I was wondering if anyone might know what it is? Tumor? Parasite? Disease? I'm just curious. Thanks!

The duck looks healthy but i have never seen anything like this. Maybe a growth of some kind is it fleshy look like it maybe or could it be something sticking out of the bill [foreign object]?Very pretty drake.

I'm not sure. It looks kind of fleshy to me too. I'm sure if it was a foreign object my aunt would have gotten him some help. She's an animal lover! My guess was a growth of some kind. Thanks for your input!

could that be his tongue ? again it looks fleshy but again it is very unlikely the tongue they arent that long, myguess is that thats the egg tooth that never fell off and cointued to grow when the baby was supposed to hatch.
Yes thats it, It must be the egg tooth that never fell off !

Huh, that's an interesting theory! Do you think if it was the egg tooth it would be at the end of the beak though?

I don't think it's the egg tooth, from the looks of the duck doesn't look like it is having trouble eating would be nice if some one could check it out closer though to see what it is.

Wouldn't that be nice! But seeing as it's a wild duck I doubt they could get any closer. Or if they'd even see it again. Lol

I'm not sure. From the pic he looks about the same size but it's hard to tell. My aunt said he lives in the pond at their apartment complex. She said she'll try to get some closer pics. I'll post them if she does. She also said she thinks the growth is hard not spongy.
