I went to my shed (a covered leantoo) last night to get a small hand full of straw I have stored there to add to some of my nest boxes in my coops and when I got there I found 8 eggs laying there in a nest made in the straw. I don't know for sure what they are but I am guessing they are guineas and I don't know how long they have been there either. I brought them inside to warm up and settle again and placed a golf ball in the nest so if it is a fresh nest maybe they will continue to lay there. All my chickens, ducks, guineas and turkeys are in coops or pens and do not get to go out unless it is in their HUGE run so these eggs shouldn't be mine.
My neighbor has chickens and guineas that free range all over the place but I haven't seen her chickens over here on my property since summer but her 3 guineas hang out over here every day and are always looking through the fencing at my guineas and talking with them. She has 1 pearl tom/roo and 2 white hens so I am guessing these are from them. My guineas were bought the same day as day olds and none of mine have layed an egg yet. I thought they wouldn't lay till spring so I don't have any nest box in with them but I guess I better get one made for them and see if they will lay then.
I plugged the bator back in last night and after I get up later today I will see if there are any more eggs in that nest and if there is I will scoop them up too and place them in the bator tomarrow afternoon and see if anything happens.
I saw on another thread that guineas take 28 days to incubate so I guess I will throw a few of my chicken eggs in there in a week if it looks like any of these eggs are developing after I candle them so they hatch at the same time.
I thought I was done hatching for the winter after I hatched out 7 ducklings and 6 BBS Orph eggs from MissPrissy about 3 weeks ago but I guess when your addicted you never really stop hatching, no matter what time of the year it is.
Wish me luck.....
