I thought about skunk once I posted...

wildlife cam is set and live trap is set. Kittens are still in hayloft for now but, window is secure. Everybody is tucked in

We caught a HUGE possum last night. Must be what ripped open a welded wire hoop house and took 3 of my juvies a couple days ago.

We escorted him to a place far, far away and reset the trap to see if he has any friends.

Heard red-tail hawks screaming all day, but the Guinea freaked out and sent all the chickens running for cover every time they flew over. Love my Guineas.

caught a skunk two night ago... a big old yellow one

We draped a cloth over it and very gently rehomed it. I sent in the 4 year old because he'd be easier to clean

.. just kidding

So, of course, the one I forgot to put on there... I think that was what got the girls on the nest in the tack room but didn't eat them... still think there's something else lurking.

Carol, I can't believe it got through that welded wire! gee whiz...

Skunk Lesson 101 ... When skunks are young, they resemble that iconic image.. "pepe le pew" .. pretty black body and thin white stripe down the back.

As skunks mature, the thin white stripe widens and takes over more of the body... til they get old and .. well white. When they get REALLY old, that white kind of turns.. grungy and yellow and not so Pepe le pew and more "big ole yella skunk"

they can jump down a lot better then they can jump up they are excellent climbers though this is the reason most hunters use hounds that will stand at a treed coon and bawl
