Due to the combination of a dog attack on my hens and high chick prices, I am about to set a small clutch of eggs in my Leahy 624, which has sat unused for over 20 years.

I have a 5225 temp/humidity "meter" in the window, but the reservoir got broken and it's going to be a few days before I can get either a replacement or a digital meter.

In the meantime, is there a semi-safe way to guess about the proper amount of water in the pan to get started with? My unit still has the original 3-part pan, although it's getting pretty thin in places. The manual, IIRC, says only to fill the small part up for the main part of the incubation, but I wonder if anyone here has more detailed advice?

Thanks.

Lots of people don't add water until the second part of incubation. I'm not one of them. That doesn't mean there isn't any humidity, but it's probably low.

Just guessing but I'd say your safe by filling up the small reservoir. If you see condensation on the glass, then it is way too high for the first part of incubation.
