The Blue Ridge Mountains of Virginia!
I have several 7 week old guineas that were jumping
and playing around together and I swear that one of
these beautiful babies 'buck-wheated' as I stood there
watching....
how unusual is this?? I know what I heard and I haven't
heard this before from my young baby guineas...

Yes, some of my little Hens start buck-wheating as early as 5-6 weeks, and even before that some of them have a squeaky 2-syllable chirpy/peep that sometimes I swear is early buck-wheating too.

Thanks Peeps.....it's good to know I am not loosing my mind too!!

(was given pheasant eggs to hatch and lucky enough to find 5 peafowl eggs,
so I am trying something new...wish me luck Peeps!)

Ohhh good luck! Pheasants are easy to hatch (they take less time than Peafowl eggs do tho, if you are incubating them together). Just be sure to feed the Pheasants high protein food from the start and give them plenty of room in their brooder and pen. I hatched some last season and they were cannibalizing each other by the time they were 8 wks, in a huge pen even, being raised on 28% protein game bird feed! Blinders and bits help with the cannibalism, but I just decided to just open the pen and let mine out to do their own thing instead, hoping they'd stick around and free range my land with my free rang Guineas... one was even a Melanistic Mutant and would have been a really pretty hen to keep (IMO), but I let her go too. After a couple days never saw them again

There's a flock of wild Pheasants in my area, so I am sure they hooked up with them.. I hope anyway.
