guinea chick with a very hurt leg. help please!

About a month ago, I got 26 guinea chicks in the mail. I went out to check on them, and one got its leg caught in the handle of the waterer. How? I have no idea..

It has been walking on its "legs" and falling over ever since this happened, about a week and a half ago. The leg is very swollen. I have had it in a separate area with a heat lamp, but its not getting any better. I really want to help it because I absolutely LOVE guineas and want to save the little guy. Thanks in advance.

Sounds broken to me... especially since you say it's really swollen. Have you moved the leg at all to see if it feels broken? Is the leg in the normal position or twisted out of place at an angle? And if you push on the bottom of it's foot does it push back with that leg? It could just be badly bruise and strained, if it doesn't feel like it's broken, but it may have also slipped the tendon out of the groove on it's hock, which is pretty painful for the keet (and hard to fix at this stage, if at all possible). Is there anyway you can put some kind of splint or bandaging on it to help immobilize it so it can heal? Sometimes Guineas do fine gimping around on 1 leg until they heal, but sounds like this little guy is having a hard time and is in a lot of pain.

Please post some pics of the leg if you can... and I can try to help figure out if it's treatable or not.

Pics would help! I had a hen get under a falling rock last year and break her leg. I took a piece of wood (like a popsicle stick) and wrapped it with gauze. Gently push the leg back into place. Hold the gauze wrapped stick around the leg...tape it to the leg with surgical tape...then wrap the whole leg with gauze and tape again. 2 weeks and the hen was fine. I can see a slight lump where it was broke, but it doesn't seem to bother her at all now. Also, I used baby aspirin (the orange kind) dissolved in water, for pain. Look up the exact dose because it needs diluted, but it does seem to help with pain.
