Ok, I was sure it had internally pipped so I decided to open the air cell to see if it was ready to hatch. But I don’t think it has because I can’t find it’s beak. Argh! I feel completely like a newbie even though I’ve hatched ducks. Now I’m thinking I opened it too soon.
I’m keeping the membrane moist with Vaseline. I’m making an eggshell cap to cover the hole to help keep it moist. It’s definitely alive and I feel like the veins have already shrunk. But if it doesn’t show me it’s beak/I can’t find it’s beak I don’t know what else to do.
Any thoughts on whether I should chip away a bit more shell to try to find the beak, or just leave it alone for a few hours?
