Hello! I am happily waiting on my order of about 2 dozen guinea keets. I am assuming 1/2 male, 1/2 female... they'll eventually free roam 13.5 acres, with a predator safe shed. How do the males get along? I am ordering 7 different varieties, and hoping to enjoy watching the genetics play out, but wonder if this is a one male scenario?

Guineas are unlike any other poultry. They do tend to pair up one hen to one cock. I like to have a couple of extra hens because not all males are satisfied with just one hen.

Both hens and cocks can be cantankerous with others in the flock.

I've had a small flock for a year now (numbers fluctuating between 4-6 depending). The males and females tend to pair up, but if there is an extra female or two that would be best. They do form trios sometimes. The males who were raised together don't shed blood but they do a lot of goofy chasing with one another (especially during mating season). The newbie male I slowly introduced got quite a beating and although they haven't drawn blood again, the bullying is ongoing and the new boy has been hiding. One of my females just died of a prolapsed vent though so I am at 3 males/2 females right now which is part of the problem. I am raising up keets now to get my numbers back up!
