guinea hen acting strange

one of my hens i noticed acting real quiet-like a week or so ago. i figured she would end up dying because she acted just like a male i had die about 3 or 4 months ago. a week later and shes stil alive, the strange thing is she takes off to the woods all day long and comes out at dusk to roost in the trees or huddle near the coop. if i ever see her during the day she looks like shes sleeping, eyes closed and just sitting there, or lumbering around near/in the woods. i know the first thing to think is shes broody and has a nest in the woods, but she doesnt seem to be. she had been gone for the past two whole days never saw her at all so i figured she was a gonner, then this morning she was back, her oddly quiet slow self. she pecked around to eat slowly and then went back to the woods. i watched to see where she went and she didnt go anywhere in particular, just sat in the woods and if i got too close she would slowly walk further away then sit down again. any ideas? no one else seems to be sickly

This is a long shot, but the only sick guinea hen I've had acted a little like that, and she was actually prolapsed (vent coming out). It was hard to see because she didn't want us to get near her. So take a look at her back end.

We had to cull our girl. This was back a couple years ago, and we hadn't figured it out in time. So even though I know yours won't like it, try your best to catch her and see if there's something you can help with.

Mine acted a bit like that recently but it was her feet that were the problem. She couldn't keep up with everyone or stand for very long. I penned her up so she couldn't leave the yard. She was not happy but with rest she got back to normal in a few days. As hard as they are to catch I think you should look her over and if you have a spot pen her up. Then you would be able to keep an eye on her ... and slip her some extra treats.

I agree, catch her, check her over, pen her up and give her electrolytes, high protein feed and greens and see if she improves. She may have in infection going on, possibly from a hidden wound or even from being egg bound and may need antibiotics.
