I have a 3 week old Guinea keet that has a probably slipped tendon. Has anyone successfully treated this? I have no vets in my area that will treat her.

If you do a search in the Emergencies / Diseases / Injuries and Cures forum for slipped tendon, there have been many posts. The treatment is the same for keets as it is for chicks.

The cause may be due to improper feed. Insufficient niacin and thiamine is the leading cause of slipped tendon, perosis.

The tendon must be manipulated back into place and secured there to prevent further slippage. Giving vitamin B complex mixed at the rate of 1/2 tablet or capsule per one gallon of water will provide the needed niacin and thiamine. It needs to be the only source of water and should be made fresh daily.

I’ve only had one keet with a slipped tendon, and I was unable to fix it by taping and physical therapy. It was also a painful condition so I ended up euthanizing the keet. I discussed the condition with the wildlife vet that I know and was given a really high $ estimate for surgical correction. I really hope that your keet does better.
