We introduced a male and female guinea pair into our chicken flock last fall after the male was attacked by a hawk and became gimpy. Over the winter everyone in the mixed flock was fine, though the male guinea was a little aggressive. Once Spring hit his aggressiveness increased and he really tore up one of the hen’s wing. He was evicted shortly after. I’m not sure he would have been aggressive without his mate, but he did do some damage and if he had an opportunity again to attack one of the hens he certainly would.
Having said all that, I love the guineas and they have been great bug control. If I had known about guineas I would have gotten them instead of chickens.
