Guinea mates fighting...normal or something else? They are bleeding!

I saw a trio of guineas fighting. It was mainly 2 of them and then every once in a while, the 3rd would pop in and help out one of them. When I realized they were grabbing wattles and hanging on, I decided to step in.

That's when I realized that it was my dominant pair! The one that kept jumping in, was the younger guinea that my dominant female had adopted. I guess she thought she was helping.

Anyway, the male and female are both bleeding pretty good from their wattles. I'm not even going to try and catch them and treat them! LOL! After my dog broke up the fight, they both wandered off to graze.

What I want to know is, is this part of the mating? They were head bobbing, chest bumping, weaving their necks around, but then SHE would jump on HIM! And yes, I am positive she is a female. Not only is there a huge size difference, but the head and voice are different, too. Why would she be trying to dominate him? Could it be that she's ready to mate and he's not? Is she mad that he tried to mate her and is "attacking" him? Is this all just part of some weird guinea courtship?

well i have seen my guinea females show the males whos boss after mating if the males didnt do it right (the males pulled out a feather once and the female pecked him hard enough to make him squeal)

other wise i've seen males do that to find out whos dominate put since i put my mean ones in the freezer i havent had any fights like that just a few chases i had to break up.

so the male might not of mated her right

if theres any wounds not on there heads you can use betadine to help them heal and prevent infection ( i put in in a spray bottle and spray it where it needs it)

So do you have a sprayer that will reach 15-20 feet? LOL! If I sprayed something at them, they would run and never stop! They will come up for treats, but not for any touching.

It was on their heads, and they were bleeding pretty good, but I can't see any obvious wounds today. It just surprised me because they are inseparable.

In fact, the female fell in the pool one time and the male threw himself against the door trying to get my attention (it worked!) and stood there screaming while I fished her out.

I am guessing it had something to do with mating. I've never seen him mate her, but they are only about 5 months, so just starting, I guess.

I guess I can't expect to figure too much out about how a guinea's brain works! LOL!

well one of mine had his toe almost pecked of by the mean ones that i culled so i used betadine, the sprayer i used only reached about 6-7ft but i waited tell they went up to roost for the night and did it too, so far his toe healed very well its just a little deformed he still gets about fine with it tho so thats what counts i guess
