My six guineas started their "alert" call this afternoon. I was in the kitchen and looked out the window expecting to see a vehicle coming up the driveway...much to my shock I saw the six running towards the small brush pile in the side yard field. Then I saw a hawk take flight from the brush pile!!

My chickens were all free ranging today since the sun was out and some green grass had sprouted. I was shocked and oh, so proud of my guineas!

I had never seen them do this ever before and am quite amazed. Has anyone else experienced this? I don't know if they will do this again or if they have in the past but it was quite a sight.

My guineas have gone after hawks. The first time I saw it, I was stunned. I've had guineas in the past and never saw it, but I have a group we call "the gang of seven." And they do indeed roost hawks.

They aren't mindlessly aggressive either. They coexist peacefully with the other birds around my place including chickens and geese. It's only the hawks that the roust.

Well, soccermom, I sure hope this is a reg thing my guineas will do! I am glad to hear that you have some that do it too. Mine spend their days chasing each other and I was beginning to think they were useless....not any more. LOL

My Guineas will get under the tree that the hawk is in and just RAISE HELL. The poor thing finally will fly off not to be seen until another day.

I now have "hawk pointer Guineas". Hummmm, some of you may know what this means.

Hawks are VERY cunning, so do not be too reassured that you have solved your problem with these predators just becuase your Guineas go after them.

Once a hawk kills, there really is nothing any one can do.

In any event, Yea Guineas and give 'em hell.

good to hear that your guineas help, too, goonie. What a wonderful addition to hawk patrol! I allow my turkey to free range with my poultry, hopefully as a deterrent, too. At least, the guineas give me warning to get outside. Everyone goes into lock down at night but you still never have a guarantee. Thanks for the input here!

I don't know how well my turkeys can fly as I think they are too heavy. LOL But they stay with the flock and the entire flock stays in the large yard. They don't go into the unfenced fields, only the guineas do that.

I want some Turkeys and some Guineas - I just don't know if they would bother the neighbors LOL.

The chickens free range - so the others would to and I think a big turkey running with them to visit might be frightening to people

I've been wanting guineas but hear they are noisy so being a good neighbor have not gotten them . This is great story power to the guineas !!!!!!

Well, living in the middle of 82 acres provides us some sound proofing. Our neighbor across the road would love to have guineas but the guineas I gave him a year ago all disappeared. Mine disappear when they set their nests in the fields. spring is about here and I will have to see what happens now. Mine, so far, do not leave our farm. I get where I tune them out but sure hear them when they run across the roof of the house. Christmas time it is nice. LOL LOL ho ho ho
Yes, Cyn, they are goofy. I was standing behind our "barn" and watched two guineas run around the barn over and over again and then stop turn and go the other way??? I don't even want to know what that was all about. LOL They are pretty good when I call them at sunset to come in. Sometimes they go stand outside the turkey pen wanting in with the turkeys. Other times they just want back in the coop. On rare occasions they refuse to go inside and spend the night outside.
