Guineas

friend of mine got me a couple guineas. At first, we thought they were chicks!
I already have them on game bird starter.
Will they grow up to be as friendly as chickens?

I hope for your sake they do! My neighbor has 6 of them and we can not stand them. They stink and they are very noisy. I will stick with chickens. Good Luck! Mabey with lots of love and attention they will be just as nice as chickens.

I would NEVER keep a guinea as an indoor pet! Their poop smells horrible! Mine are super flighty, dont expect them to be as friendly as the chickens. They might even kill the chickens. Cyn (Speckledhen) has personal experience with super nice guineas and chicken beating guineas. Hopefully she will pop in and tell you her personal experience with them.

My three guineas terrorize my chickens. They run around like little 'madbirds' and zip at the chickens like they're going to attack. The bizarre thing: they're been together since day one. They are just wild. I can sneak up behind mine and pet them, but they quickly fly off and chatter at me once I touch them. They're constantly trying to fly out of the coop as fast as they can (over my head if they have to). Outside animal definitely - but not an inside pet. Try a bantam.

I love my Guineas.the best guard bird you will ever own. I also would not suggest having them indoors, they are not like chickens, I can't touch mine. They fly crazy for no apparent reason and yes.they stink ! But I love to watch mine,they stay close to my chickens....so far no fighting...

My neighbors have guineas and they have never bothered our chickens. I bought some baby keets the same time I bought baby chickens but couldn't keep them in the same brooder. I had to move them out of the house this week because they were stinky and flighty.

But they are good to get rid of the ticks.

I love mine too. I changed the litter every day though til they were 2 weeks old. Feeding them too much grass makes their poos smell bad IMO. I change the pine shavings every 2 weeks now and they don't stink like they did when they were little. Their poos are way smaller and firmer than chicks. They are more flighty but worth the extra effort. I spent quite a bit of time with my keets when they were young. Mine are almost a month old and they crowd in to eat out of my hand. Guineas are very athletic birds and run and fly for any reason at all even just to exercise. Some might see that as crazy or wild. Chickens are far more domesticated therefore easier to tame.

Carrots, as I just found out, make stinky guinea poops too!
