Ok, I was having a discussion with someone and want to see if I made an idiot out of myself. They were saying that they had guinneas and chickens and they crossbreed. I was saying they couldn't, but now I'm thinking I may have seen something a long time ago about this happening. So do they? Can they? If so, then why don't all of them crossbreed when people have them together on the farm?

Ok, I looked it up and found that they can indeed cross. So guess it's not a good idea to have chickens and guinneas free range together?

They can, but most chickens will not allow a guinea to mate with it, have you seen them, it would have to be a late night at the chicken bar, and way too much corn.

It does happen, I think rarely though, I have had mine together for 3 years and never had one crossbreed hatch. Its nothing I worry about. I think anytime you have 2 species together you take the chance of crossbreeding, whether it takes is another story.

OK, that one guin-hen (turken) cross looks like a vulture. **shudders** Thank god they're sterile.

Kinda the same situation as a mule which is a horse X donkey.

I think I may have had one last month, we had a bunch of guinea eggs in the bator and one hatched around day 21 instead of 28 but I wasn't home, and by the time I got back DH said it had drowned in the water dish and he removed the evidence. So I'll never know.
