Lets start off...This gun was given to me 2 yrs ago from my FIL . I love the gun ! It's a little heavy , but I shot both my deer down dead last yr . This year , I shot my second ( not a drop...actually broke it's back ) and went to take another shot to kill ( I hate missing...I always wanna have a clean kill ) I went to shoot again and my gun had jammed ( the spent shell was caught in the action ) so I jacked that out and had another round in the chamber , shot and nothing . The new round was askew in the chamber , took that out tried again...nothing . I have heard that this model has major problems , and have already determined that it's not the magazine . My question is....can I take this gun to a reputable gunsmith to be fixed , or am I wasting my time ? I've already researchrd some , but would appreciate any info anyone has as far as experiences with these guns . Thanks !

I have mine for more years than i like to tell....not one time has it jam.....I keep it well clean, shoot 180 gram ammo. Yes i would think a good gunsmith should be able to repair it.

Alot depends on how well it was care for..........how much ammo was shot.......

My FIL only used it twice before he gave it to me . He had it for 30+ years and had cleaned it before he gave it to me...hence my good first yr . I have not cleaned it since , maybe that's the problem ? I do knoe it's really hard to jack in a shell and unload on the action....even unloaded without the clip . I know how to work guns and use them safely , just don't know all of the parts that need to be cleaned on a semi-auto , and how to do it . I heard that on those guns the rails wear causing malfuntion and that it was better to throw it away than refurbish because of the money...I'll save up if I have to .....my SD will own it when I can't shoot anymore . Just wanted to know If it is that bad....can it be refurbished ?

Yes sound like it just needs a good cleaning , and oil. Should be no trouble with wear , if he hadn't even shot a boxes of ammo thru it.

One you can drop a deer at 500yd with.

Should alway clean and oil after each use.....yep thats your problem

Better to get a manual, very important to clean after each use.....u can try to oil and see if it still hard to camber a round.

On a side note...do you know how to re-blue a gun ( don't really want the smooth finish , just looking for the origional .) I let my sis borrow my model 597 remington semi-auto .22 and she left it in her truck all winter long ( they had racoons) long story short , the whole barrell is rust . It's not a blue , more like black spray paint . As you know , this gun is inexpensive , but I just want to get it back into working order . Any ideas ?

Sorry I can't help you with a fix but yes they are well known for jamming.

I'd suggest breaking her down and giving it a good cleaning/oiling. You could have gotten some thing in the chamber causing the problems.
