Gurgling (Read Full Post,

Gurgling can be from a few things. Aspirated fluids and crop issues. If her crop is not emptying, has fluid and/or air in it, that can cause some gurgling.

It sounds like she does have reproductive problems. If you have found lash egg (Salpingitis), that causes inflammation which in turn backs up the whole system. I've found crop issues are usually a symptom of something else going on.

Only you can determine her condition and the amount of suffering. That said, with mine, once they quit eating/drinking on their own and can't "function" normally, I put them out of their misery.

UPDATE: So I separated the hen today from the other chickens - at night she's in our mudroom and during the day she is outside of the chicken run in her kennel. She may have a small amount of clear mucus coming from one of her nostrils. I've done the breathe oil thing tonight - though that's more for sinuses than lungs. The gurgling hasn't stopped.

None of the other chickens seem sick.
