Hi y'all,
(1) Are you new to chickens / when did you first get chickens?
Yes, brand new to chickens, although my mom was raised on a farm and I remember their chickens when I was young.
We started on this journey this last September.
(2) How many chickens do you have right now?
We originally purchased 7 and are now down to 6....... Sadly, I tripped, fell and.... well you can imagine the rest.
(3) What breeds do you have?
3x Opringtons
1x Black Astralorp -our best guess but not sure. We purchased in a mixed breed bin.
1x Blue Sapphire (started with two)
1x Cream Leghorn? I think but we are not sure. Part of the mixed breed bin.
(4) What are your favorite aspects of raising backyard chickens?
Eggs, eggs, and eggs. Fresh. Plus, we know what we feed them and it helps our youngest learn responsibility and where our food comes from.
(5) What are some of your other hobbies?
Hunting, fishing, photography, music, rustic stuff, old handtools, building things, airplanes.
(6) Tell us about your family, your other pets, your occupation, or anything else you'd like to share.
My wife and I have two older kids, one who just got married. Plus we have a young one too!
We love God, coffee, and going to garage sales.
We have two dogs, a cat, a rabbit, and 6 chickens.
I am a project manager for a company which builds airplanes.
(7) Bonus: How did you find BYC, how long have you known about BYC, and what made you finally join our awesome community?
Google - specifically, I have referenced this site numerous times when I was researching raising chickens and most recently trying to identify our 6th hen which I believe might be a Cream Legbar.
