After baking and eating my way through the snowy weekend, I decided to be more productive yesterday.

I took stock of my lumber stash ( stash not stack, addicts have stashes) and decided to build a small tractor for separating hens with chicks from the main flock. The tractor will be used in the chicken yard which has 4ft 2x4 welded wire and 3 strands of electric wire around it so the construction focused more on keeping chickens in than predators out.

I ended up with a triangular tractor that is 6 ft long (7ft along the ridge), 2 ft wide and roughly 2 ft tall. The interior space is roughly 2 ft square, leaving a 2ft by 4ft run area. There is door at the back of the inside space and a door midway along the side of the run. The run area is covered with 1/2 hardwire cloth. The sharp edges of the hardwire cloth was covered with leftover slats from some shortened window blinds. The base and all exterior wood is pressure treated lumber covered with two coats of exterior paint.

Wow, I feel lazy... It gets cold I put on my robe, slippers, and my coat, scarf, gloves, etc. and drink coffee while on the puter.

That tractor is amazing... I hope our work on our coop (assuming I don't chicken out, see Our City topic) is half as good!

I wish i had that kind of motivation on snow days! snow always makes me want a good book and something hot to drink

I hear ya!
That's a sweet looking lil tractor.
I've been dealing with the snow that didn't dump in TN and made it over the Mtns to NC. Snow kept me from continuing on new coop so I went into the shop; and like you scrounged through the stash and started on nest boxes for the new coop

Thanks!

Nest boxes were last weeks snowday project. We are out again tomorrow so I will likely be scrounging around again to see what I can come up with.

Had freezing rain today, "supposed to have snow" again fri-sat. Waited 4 weeks to set the posts for my new coop due to that many nights/days with temps below freezing. Got posts done floor built, walls framed/hung then roof up and shingled in one week of 40'S. Now this last storm, now maybe another.
Been here 20 years and any previous winter I could of done the build easily. Yea it might have be cold but never had such a wet winter as this one. Al Gore is wrong again
