Well, I got 26 chicks on Monday, everyone seemed to be doing well until this morning. My smallest polish girl was very sluggish and just didn't seem to be doing very well. Unfortunately with taxes due in just a few days, I had to go to work this morning and my daughter called me this afternoon that she had passed. The brooder is at 95, they are getting vitamins in the water and medicated feed. I check their hineys every day to make sure there is no pasty butt. Poops look good, they are all eating, they got an egg yolk treat yesterday that they loved. I have to assume that it was just meant to be. Still sad

sometimes, it just happens. maybe something internal. If the rest look good, then don't be quick at laying any blame on yourself. ...and as a person who expected half of my lot to be DOA... 26 chickens are a lot of chickens. I only lost one.

I understand the sad.

That just happened to me. It's sad, but it's nature that the strong survive.
I sat there the entire day feeding her and giving her water and egg yoke and keeping her warm and she still died. It's just a failure to thrive.

Give her a name and bury her in a little chicken cemetery. It'll make you feel better.

That is exactly what we are planning on doing. She was my 7 year olds favorite in the lot of 26 that we got mostly because she is the baby in the house and this one was the smallest. I am hoping that when she comes home, she will understand. I did have a talk with her before the shipment came that some of the chicks may not make the trip and that some might not survive once we got them. Its just natures way. I have a feeling she will still be pretty upset.
