hallo ,my name is stavros,i am new to this site. i live in greece and have been raising poultry as pets for 15 years now.
i curently share my house and yard with 2 dogs, 4 cats ,4 ringneck pheasants ,3 pairs of mandarin ducks, 2 pairs of north american wood ducks and 4 koi fish.
i used to own bandam chickens but i gave them up when i had to stay for 4 years in the uk to study biology.
this year i decided to start with chickens again . i am curenty fixing my old chicken house because it had not been in use for ten years now.
i am going to house my chickens in a 3,5 x 2,5 m chicken coop that is conected to a 1,3m x 70 cm nest, all my coop and nest is built with bricks and cement ant the front of the chicken coop is made with strong small loop rabbit wire that is imbeded in the cement. the bottom is made with cement and is raised 30 cm of the ground in case of heavy rain and flood. the roof is 100% leak proof and is insulated to keep the heat out in the summer.i builted a small door in order to let my chickens free in the yard for some hours every day.
i am looking for a breed of chicken that is nice looking ,broody and tame. for some reason i dislike white feather breeds,i am considering geting gold brahmas (a rooster and 3 hens). does anybody know the advantages and disadvantages of brahma chckens? can u sugest any other breed?
