I picked this hobby up several years ago, trying to decide what to do with excess eggs.

Here's my very first egg I ever did, it's a serama rooster. It's now in the Netherlands.

And another I did of a black cochin rooster.

I have several more. I've entered in a few art shows. The most notable win was at the Crossroads of America '06. But, I do it for fun and relaxation.

Anyone else out here have the same hobby? Want to share it?

Thank you Schultz, it's just a hobby though in refinement and I sell them here and there if someone wants one. I'm going to expand my breed base more. I collected 9 goose eggs that were clear, that I'm going to blow out and paint, as soon as I find the time to do so. Those should make beautiful ornaments.

I've been bowing out some of my eggs to paint too, though your paintings are MUCH better than mine!

How do you turn them into ornaments? The eggs seem so fragile I'm afriad they would break too easily to use for anything.

When I blow them out, I use a 50 cc syringe to push the contents out. And I use a dremel tool to open up both ends just enough for the head of the needle to cover. Once I get the contents out, I flush it with bleach water. I have broken a few when I first started out but they are surprisingly more resilient than you would think. I get the filigreed caps at Michael's (they have gold and silver colors, I prefer the gold), and run a clear fishing line thorough the cap at the top so it can be hung up. Those are applied only after the inside and outside of the egg is thoroughly dried. My daughter has taken up the hobby as well.

Those are beautiful! I saved my first 2 longhorn eggs 18 years ago, and made Christmas ornaments. Sad to say, I used a red Sharpie and a piece of embroidery floss!

They finally broke down from attic heat last year and I tossed them.

Equally sad to say, the only thing I can paint is myself into a corner!

I made one for the ornament swap last month but I didnt take any pictures of it lol. It was just a random portrait of a rooster.
