HAPPY RESURRECTION DAY!!!!

Eastern Orthodoxy, the second largest Christian denomination in the world, follows the Julian calender. For them, Easter is in a week. Christmas also falls on a different date for them. Calender differences are what makes the dates different.

Quite honestly, Mr. Aqua Eyes, most of us who DO believe and celebrate Resurrection Day, also overindulge in the candy as well. And yes, we too lie to our children about the Easter bunny, along with the truth as we know it, see it, believe it.

I for one was quite happy to sing His praises today, thank Him for his sacrifices and go home and eat too much. Which is exactly what we did.

He is Risen!!!! People can disagree, but no one can take away MY joy.

It's great that it brings you joy. I was merely commenting on the original post, which stated that the ONLY reason for celebrating today is the resurrection. I celebrated different things, and I don't like the idea of someone telling me what and how I should celebrate. I had a great day with my neighbor's family, and experienced joy as I watched the children searching for their baskets of candy and prizes, dressed to look pretty or handsome, and having a good time playing together. I also experienced joy in seeing a garden coming alive with Spring, hearing birds sing, having a wonderful and prolonged meal, enjoying a feeling of togetherness, etc. I don't think how I celebrated today was in any way wrong.

If the OP said that the resurrection was HER or HIS reason for celebrating, I wouldn't have an issue. Please see the first post in the thread to understand what I mean. The important thing to me is that people celebrate -- when or how or why doesn't matter to me.

:)

Give room for young people to grow and learn. A celebration is just that, to each individual person. I personally love to watch kids searching for eggs and candy, getting all dressed up in the pastel colored clothing. And birds? Well. I am a bird person. Broaden your horizons to see that most young people are very literal when they post. Oh and the garden? You MUST visit the California desert in April someday. It is just stunning.

Why does every innocently made comment have to turn into a disagreement with some people? Easter, however we celebrate it, as the biggest Christian festival, or as the far older return of spring festival, is a time to rejoice. There is room for everybody to celebrate it, or not as they want. A lot more tolerance is called for I think, but that's just me and I respect your absolute right to disagree!

I agree with Newfoundland. The OP is a younger, please don't do anything to get this thread locked. Remember participation in BYC forums are a privilege. Sheesh, I'm starting to sound like a moderator.

Politely pointing out that things can be less exclusive and more inclusive should not be grounds for locked threads, trampled youth, or anger. More ways to celebrate and rejoice simply means more celebrating and joy.

Yes, and being more tolerant is what my first post in this thread was requesting, as well as reminding us that there's a great big chunk of Christians who will celebrate this holiday next week, since that would be one week after The Last Supper (which was a Passover seder). So some Christians were celebrating Palm Sunday, some were celebrating Resurrection, and other people may have been having their own special days that involved neither.

Obviously, this thread was for people who do celebrate Resurrection Day, not those who do not. Not sure why that concept is so difficult. Due to arguing, this thread is now closed.
