Happy to be here!

Hiya and welcome to BYC!

We too moved, out to the country several years ago and started planting trees and got silkies. We got peaches off our peach tree this year, and we're in Wisconsin! 😳
It's sure fun though, isn't it? Do everything you want to do while you can is my motto once I hit 60 lol.

Hi! I'm a retired preschool teacher, but currently full-time caregiver to my elderly bed bound dad, who turns 96 next week. I've moved back to my childhood home to take care of him, and finally get to fulfill my homesteading dream by planting fruit trees and raising chickens. Hatching chicks was an annual event in my preschool classroom, but I always had to find homes for them when they got too big. Now I can finally let let them grow up! The chicks are now 16 weeks old, and I expect that they might start laying eggs at the same time that I am expecting my first grandchild! I'm also contemplating bees and maybe a couple dairy goats....my other hobby is making artisan cheese. (I'm lucky to have a farm nearby for raw milk, but no close sources for fresh goats' milk.). My husband thinks I'm crazy to start all these new projects, but I say, if not now, WHEN???
Welcome to the community! You must be so excited for your first grandchild and eggs from your hens! I started caring for my mother-in-law that has dementia a few months ago. She really enjoys interacting every day with my chickens and budgies. Does your Dad show any interest in your chickens? I also want to start raising bees and dairy goats! I need to wait until I move to a property that allows me to do this though. You are not crazy at all. I think all of these new things help to keep us active and young!!
