Happy to have found ya'll

Just wanted to make my first post here since it was recommended! Happy to be a part of the community with you guys! Here are the fun lil questions from the post that guided me here!

(1) Are you new to chickens / when did you first get chickens?
My dad raised chickens when I was growing up, but he was in charge of everything about them. As a new homeowner I got chicks about a week ago and I'm about to start my coop.
(2) How many chickens do you have right now?
I have 18 chicks, they're still babies so sexing is a bit tough, but it seems like (based off the wing shape) 15 girls and 3 boys. I have found responsible homes for the boys once they're a bit older, since I'm in it for the eggs not the breeding.
(3) What breeds do you have?
All bantams!
(4) What are your favorite aspects of raising backyard chickens?
So far, the building and the self sufficiency is my favorite part. I like building and landscaping, and the idea of having my own source of eggs and maybe meat after a while is super exciting to me.
(5) What are some of your other hobbies?
I like the gym, I like to work on my yard and landscaping, always some project is going. Also love video games, but I hate the whole "gamer" title, and hardly see it as a hobby.
(6) Tell us about your family, your other pets, your occupation, or anything else you'd like to share.
I live with my partner, and she's actually afraid of birds. So surprising her with 18 baby birds was... interesting! But she loves them probably more than I do at this point! We have a little chihuahua and I own one ball python.
(7) Bonus: How did you find BYC, how long have you known about BYC, and what made you finally join our awesome community? :D
I found BYC from googling chicken questions. It seems like you guys are always at the top of the search results and have good answers! I joined for the sake of contributing to the community, learning, and maybe one day educating people like me who are just starting out!

I tossed on a pic of my little chicken family in their brooder. (Yes, they have a heat lamp, but most of the time the room they're kept in is warm enough without it. We live in the desert and it's poorly insulated! LMAO)

hello and welcome! that's a nice size flock and oh so cute they are! I used to live in the desert... in Antelope Valley CA. Im just curious when you said desert,, are you there ?

Hello Mike, and welcome to BYC! :frow Glad you joined.
You aren't going to get much meat from a bantam.
I figured, but I thought lil guys would be easier while I'm still learning, and then over time I can expand the coop and run to support bigger breeds! Probably in a couple years, just wanna be good at my craft before I jump head first into the big boys!
