Hardwood mulch for bedding

Does anyone know of any issues with hardwood mulch for bedding? I use pine shavings in the coop itself, but to keep the yard from getting too mucky I've been using hardwood mulch when it went on sale for $1.50 a bag. Pine shavings disappear in one day into the ground. Thanks!

I don't see a problem for the chickens using it. I would think the finer parts of it would also tend to disappear. I know plain wood chips have been used by some in the run.
