I am soon to buy chickens, and since I live in Denver, I should probably get hardy ones I think... It gets super cold in the winter, and super warm in the summer. From 0 degrees to 100!

Are there any breeds that make good pets, are hardy in both high and low temperatures (or at least not susceptible to them) and preferably are good layers with cool egg colors? I love EE, Marans, and Araucanas. I also am fond of Silkies, Wyandottes, RIRs, and Speckled Sussex.

Thanks! (And I hope this is the right place to post this. It seemed correct, but I wasn't sure.)

Of the breeds you listed, these will do the best for your climate: Silkies, Speckled Sussex, Wyandottes, Araucanas and EEs.

The trick is to stay away from large combs like the Rhode Island Red or Leghorn but get chickens that can also stand the heat, so not heavy feathered like a cochin or brahma. Silkies are hardy in just about every climate.

I'd go with any breed named after a New England state. Those birds were bred there way before electricity and were bred to be hardy to the cold and the heat. Many English breeds--Orpingtons, Sussex are also pretty hardy. I'd shy away from the Mediterranean breeds, those large combs won't do well in the cold. I've also found easter eggers to be pretty hardy anywhere.
