Harlequin Khaki mix duckling pics

All of mine also had facial stripes. But, like Jbently28, my drake was the Khaki and WH hen. I was surprised when mine had facial stripes since Welsh Harlequins are supposed to be from Khakis. I was told that the gene that gets rid of the stripes is recessive and only in the Khakis. Maybe your Welsh Harlequin was carrying both genes (heterozygous)?!
I don't know where the facial stripes come from. The Welsh Harlequins look like your classic yellow duckling with a little darker head, while the pure khakis are pretty much solid brown.

I was told it is the result of two different genes. Normal mallard, with stripes, is dominant, but both Khakis and WHs have a different recessive gene which cancels the stripes. They both still carry stripes at the other gene’s location though. When we crossed the breeds, they ended up heterozygous (one normal, one cancel for each breed) for normal stripes. The explaination fits but doesn’t match what Storey’s Guide to Ducks says. If the guide where right though, our ducklings wouldn’t have stripes.

Interesting!

I'm not sure if it would happen, but I do know that supposedly if you breed 2 of the siblings that they will come out half KC and half WH.
I've got a Welsh mother and buff orpington father mix, I cant wait to see how it feathers completely. It's got some beautiful grey feathers on it back that are buff on the tip. I'll have to get an updated picture.

I have a buff drake as well that I am hoping to breed to my WH next year. I've tried finding the combo online but cant find any. It'll definitely be an interesting combo.

Heres mine, it's one of my favorite ducks, I'm praying its female! I love the subtle eye stripe it has.
