I’m really very curious about albino chickens and kinda want to own some! But I would like to know if anyone has ever seen or heard of them!
Hey Tater-fluffy-etc. I think I have an albino chicken. Took me awhile to put it together. I thought one of our Amber Links was really a different breed, by accident, in our order. I called the vendor and they pretty much did not know what I was talking about. As our babies got older I was noticing more physiological differences between that ONE, and the others. My husband starting calling her "Pinky" cuz she has a pink face and pink legs/feet. (Basically the same skin color as white humans.) Her feathers are SNOW white, whereas the others are getting some brownish-red feathers in across their backs. I have read that the browning is breed-normal.
Two things are actually worrying me, though. One is that the other chickens seem to shun her. Fortunately they have not been picking or pecking on her. She is underweight compared to her cousins, and is smaller, and tends to hang back when they move as a flock. She is shy. Otherwise she seems normal.
My birds are 5 months old, and none have started laying. If I can get some eggs from her, I would be happy to share, as long as the logistics are not crazy. We have a Barred Rock Rooster so he could skew the results of the experiment. We live on the Huron coast in northern Michigan. (Harrisville). Anyway, answer back if this is still a topic of interest for you, or let me know any good albinism sources you have found.
