I had 5 chicks running around my house that I got from TSC awhile back. I saw them yesterday evening but this morning they were no where to be found!

They always stay within 10 to 20 feet from the foundation of the house or garage so I know they didnt just wonder off. Plus I would see them if they did..

We have a neighbor who lives a couple doors down with chickens they keep hidden in some woods. IDK why.. The rooster crows all the time and we are allowed to have chickens back here.

Well he was over at my neighbors yesterday cutting grass and I saw him looking at them. I also saw him walk to the back corner of my fence and look around.
...I mean I understand just looking to see what Ive got....

I think he took them. They were pretty tame and would just run up to people..
I dont know what else would have happend to them

If it was some bird of prey cat or dog I dont think they would have gotten all 5 right?

You know, gut instinct say's he did it. Now you have to prove it, that might be tricky.

I mean I dont want to start any trouble...
Its 3 younger (early 20s) people that live over there. I could do without trouble.

Ill just have to keep them locked up better next time I guess..

Locks are a good thing, when my rabbit hutch was outside I had padlocks on each door, when my chickens are in thier run I can't leave the alone as we don't have a good fence nor a person safe run yet. So sorry about your chicks, get new ones and lock them up tight!

any free range chicken is susceptible to predation. Any fox around your house? I lost 7 adult, free range chickens to a fox. Fox like to hunt around sunrise and sunset and are busy feeding young pups this time of year. Just a thought cause when I lost those 7 chickens, I wondered if someone had stolen them. Have seen the fox around my coop all the time now. Only found 1 pile of feathers after the attack. anyhow, be careful free ranging when you can't supervise or things like this can happen.

Probably best to give them the benefit of the doubt, but I'd drop something like this into your next conversation with them: "Y'know, my chicks disappeared so I decided to set up a hidden game cam to find out what PREDATOR took them..."

And then add, "I think I'll do some walking around in the area, see if I can find any BODIES..."

I've had several birds stolen this year, if I knew it was I'd be at their door with the law. Take a walk down there in the woods and see if he's got them. If he does, get the law and go get them or he's going to think you're his personal Piggly Wiggly for chicks!

Oh I dont think I could go back there.. What if he caught me!

Ive never talked to them before and dont plan on it anytime soon. People scare me

I havent ever seen foxes, yotes, etc out here. Plus my backyard is fenced in with the 2"x4" welded wire and they know to run back there for protection if something was chasing them.
I know nothing got back there cause my rabbit runs loose back there and dont you think that a fox, etc would go after a bigger meal?

I can totally understand you there. Especially if you live alone. People that are common enough to steal chickens are common enough to do something to you as well,,,sounds like you live near some hillbillies with no couth...I would however go over there and say they might want to keep an eye out, you think someon stole your chickens and you don't want the same to them..get thier reaction to it.and keep your doors and pens locked.
