My friend is in brainstorming mode. She is planning on moving her flock of 26 chickens to Finland. The only research she has found online is about a maximum of 5 pet birds. Does anyone know how she can move her entire flock of 26 chickens to Finland?

Thanks.

P.S. Of course the departure country is the United States and she lives in Fort Worth Texas. She is a Finnish Citizen and her family are American citizens.

I have no experience with birds, but with cats inter-state within the United States. Specifically, to Hawaii. And it was a PAIN.

There are regulations for reasons. In the Hawaii-cat case it is to ensure rabies do not make their way to the islands as well as that the animal will not just be abandoned upon arrival.

Different countries, I do not think it is likely for her flock to be able to join her. Hell, transporting the 5 allowed birds sounds to me like a huge resource, planning, and stress commitment that might not be the best for the birds.

Hate to only have bad news :{

You might try contacting your state's Agriculture Dept. for info as there might be testing way beyond the NPIP needed. I'd also look up the particular airlines she would be using and delve into their website to see if this is discussed. Good luck!

It's very unlikely to be possible! Or reasonable for the birds, at least.
Call USDA, the embassy for Finland, and the airline, for starters. Then realize that import/ export requirements are subject to change any day that some disease issue pops up. It's not likely that eggs can be shipped, much less live birds.
If it's all worth it for your friend, she needs to make contact with relevant authorities ASAP.

Great advice! I'll let her know.
