... Has anyone realized all the illness's going around with chicken's lately and how they are all so familiar? wonder what the deal is here... There needs to be some kind of Reminder/Sticky On this forum stating that if you buy an adult chicken to quarentine it for atleast a month before you even think about introducing it to their flock, so maybe new people to chickens would know that before its to late, just an idea? or is there a reminder? if so i have not seen it enough unless i accidently run across it! i want to hear your alls opinions! is there something going around? i quit buying adult chicks, i raise my own and hatch my own,

yea yea, but is that really enough? nope it isnt, just an opinion tho

There are plenty of books out there on poultry diseases/emergencies. I just bought a really good one called "Avoid the Vet," mainly because vets who treat chickens are few and far between. " Storey's Guide to Chickens " is another good one. I think anyone who has chickens should have a couple of good books on hand, as well as a first aid kit for chickens. You don't want to be caught without in an emergency....

ok for instance, i believe there should be a sticky not only on the emergency thread but all of the others to, so word gets out more, because clearly you hear about many many people introducing a new chicken(s) to their exsisting flock quite regularly and their chickens a few days later becomes ill and/or even dying, if the word was out more then maybe it could prevent that from happening by a small percentage, but atleast it could prevent it a tad bit, every bit of effort helps, i know im starting a debate here, but its a fact that a lot of people are not aware that you should not put a new chicken with their existing flock, am i wrong?

I think part of the reason there are so many, or seem like there are so many, illnesses, is because this is a message board. There is a specific place where thousands of people can voice their concerns and questions in one concentrated area.

So, while it seems like there are a lot of illnesses, it might not be nearly as prominent as it seems. Kind of like the media with a really good story. It can scare the crud out of you though to see the Emergency/Illnesses thread... *shudder*

It still pays to be very prepared and I for one am glad there is somewhere to run to if there happens to be that panic moment where I can't find the first aid kit, or I am too upset, or too whatever to think clearly.

I didnt get this idea from this site, last night i was watching on the news about diseases that are in the us now that are affecting our live stock and poultry, i know this is old news, but im bored and want something to talk about lol
