has anyone tried this?

"Skunk essense is used as a COVER scent to mask human odor.
Other scents are used to attract"

I'll stand by it. Skunk essence is a universal attractant to all predators. A number of trapping lures contain it, and often it is used straight due to its excellent carrying capacity in the cold. Hunters sometimes use a diluted version as a cover scent to mask odor, but its purpose is to mask only. It is not a deterrent to animals unless they get a direct spray. Then the odor is overwhelming to them. It has a high acid content and stings the eyes as well. Natures mace...

Another universal attractant is beaver castor, but unless you've beaver hanging about your coop, you probably don't need to worry about that. lol

Coyotes roam our pastures after dusk every evening. We had a girl scout troop camp on our land last month, and they recorded the coyotes singing from all four compass directions. Eerie. On my way to the coop this morning, I spotted a bit of brown fluff in the grass. When I got closer I could tell that it was a bunny head. Coyotes had eaten the body and one ear, buy they left the tiny head. I'm thinking about getting a wildlife video camera so that we can figure out when they hunt near the house. They are getting braver, or less cautious, as they are leaving evidence of their kills closer and closer to the house.

Yes they are very brave. Last week the local news said a coyote came into a dog park in Seattle and took a small dog right in front of the owner. Good grief!
