A local feed store is selling bags of it as recycled "green" animal bedding. Do you think it would work well? I am 4months into raising chicks and I'm trying to find a dust less option instead of pine shavings for in the coop. I would greatly appreciate any opinions on what works best. Thanks

Shredded paper might well hold moisture, leading to mildew and such.

The chickens digging around in the litter whether wood or paper will produce a certain amount of dust. I am not aware that dust in chickens' environment would be a problem. Mine deliberately dig and make their own dust baths.

Many choices.
