(Not sure if this is the right place to ask or not)

Has anyone been a 4-H project leader for chickens. My son would like to do a chicken project next year and so I am thinking I might take the class that is needed to be the project leader. We have chickens already and other parents in our club are already leaders for other project. If you have been a chicken project leader could you give me any input as to how it is. Getting ready for fairs, anything special, any certain breeds show better than others...etc.....

Thanks

Oh, that sounds like fun!

I think it would be an awesome experience for any kid.

I am the coach for my county's Poultry Judging team. We don't have 4H shows here for some weird reason. The Poultry Judging Competition is where they judge for past production, and grade eggs and ready to cook carcasses. I didn't have to take a class, but I work for 4-H.

I love doing it. And I will continue coaching even if I get a different job. I was actually thinking of starting a rabbit club maybe in the spring.

Yep Yep I am. It was sorta scary to first learn all that when into chickens I had always been a large animal person. But its alot of fun now. I love getting new kids and watching the parents faces when you tell them you have to wash the birds they are gonna show and so forth. Anywhos your local 4-H office will have your rules and regs along with all the information as far as record books and such. Its alot of fun.
