This is my first hatch. Had 200 Bob White Eggs due to hatch yesterday. I am using GQF Incubator. 200 eggs were placed in the hatching tray lined with GQFs absorbtive paper used in their brooders. I had pips yesterday, and this morning I had a handful of birds hatched. They were moving a lot of the eggs around, so I transfered the hatched birds into my GQF Cab hatcher (I got it in the day after I set the eggs in the hatching tray in my bator...great timing) and have sprinkled game bird starter (28% from Co-op) and have a game bird waterer in the tray.

Temp on both is 100.0 and humidity is between 78-80%. Even with the paper, two of the 9 chicks that have hatched have straddle leg. Is there a chance that will improve or should they be culled? Was that due to the eggs being packed in too closely? Would it be a good idea to move some of the eggs to a different tray in the hatcher so they have more room? Or do some chicks just have straddle and there is nothing that can be done?

Also, I just layed the eggs on their sides, I assume this is way to late to put them in a carton pointed end down?

Thanks

The only time I had spraddle leg with a quial - I took it out of the incubator way too soon. Spraddle leg can be fixed, you need to band aid the legs together - it's hard on a quail, but it can be done. I used a piece of yarn. THere are tons of pic on here, just query it. It takes about three days.

i also use shelf liner. What kind of paper are you using on the bottom?Paper is mostly too slick for the first couple days.put a dish towel or something with some texture down for them.
go to the stickie about splay/spraddle leg and read about the band aid treatment.

oooops well, i didn't look at the date ,just saw the question...what can i say?

I didn't either. I wish they'd change it so you can view old posts but not reply to them, this time of year there are all sorts of revived threads.
