Just curious if anyone has kept track of hatching rates with eggs kept up to 14 days.

I set up a breeding pen last month and was planning to start the incubator this Saturday, but a run of bad weather seems to have put the gals off laying. I'm not getting eggs from 2 hens I really want babies from.

I'm thinking about waiting one more week now that the weather is better and should get laying back on track. But instead of tossing the eggs I have saved so far, just adding them in with the fresher ones.

They are stored in my pantry which stays no higher than 60F and about 70% humidity, and I turn them twice a day.

Never stored them that long but the hatch rate should be above 60% as eggs have a 70% chance of hatching if stored for a week and then it decreases by 1% for every extra day beyond 7 days that they are stored.

So....

Out of 21 eggs
1 quitter
3 did not hatch
1 late hatch but is doing fine

The quitter egg had a fairly porous shell
The 3 DNH and 1 late were from the same hen, and the rest of those chicks hatched last and were smaller than the others (even though the eggs were huge).

All the eggs were numbered from 1 to 21 and the 4 non-hatched were 6, 16, 9, 11, so not really the oldest or the freshest.
