Hatched a cracked egg

Very kewl !!! A bit of good luck that. I had a cracked one in the bator last spring. It started to ooze about 2/3 of the way thru process and had to be pitched.

I seem to recall reading someone had put a bit of glue on a crack and it hatched successfully.

But there is a lot of luck involved in hatching eggs of any kind..lol.

Good job and nice pics on the blog !!!!

Sorry to hear about the poor hen with the ear infection. :aww

When I recently got the Welsummer eggs, one had a crack and had oozed a little bit of white, but seemed to have sealed itself. I wiped off the dried egg white and put a small piece of Scotch tape over the crack to reinforce it before placing it in the incubator. I'll be interested to see if this taped up egg makes it. I plan to candle at the end of Day 4 tonight. However, I will keep candling that particular egg on a regular basis to be sure it doesn't rot and potentially spoil the rest of the hatch. If it looks like it's still going strong at Day 18, then I guess I'll have to gently remove the tape or watch the egg closely to be sure the chick doesn't try to pip where the tape is located. Would orienting the egg with the taped portion down help to encourage pipping on the opposite (top) side of the egg?

Congrats on hatching the cracked egg!

Of course, now I feel bad for not trying to hatch the two BR eggs I had that had only tiny little fractures in their shells... sigh
