I just had two of my year old hatchery birds go broody. A RIR and a Buff Orp. What the heck! I thought that hatchery birds rarely went broody?

I have hatchery buff opringtons and they go broody a lot, around once to twice a year

I had a hatchery buff that went broody as soon as she started laying eggs. When spring rolled around I let her sit on purchased hatching eggs and it started a broody epidemic in my hatchery flock. I had to buff orpintons, a partridge rock and 2 silver penciled hamburgs sit long enough to hatch eggs and all but one turned out to be good mothers. Actually couldn't say the one hamburg wasn't a good mother but the bigger hamburg just basically stole her babies. My advice would be to keep your broodies seperate if you plan to let them hatch babies- which by the way is SOOO much easier than raising them yourself.
