hatchery Marans and Welsummers

I was just filling out an order form for Meyer and I came across their Welsummers and Black Copper Marans. I decided to take my chance and ordered two of each breed. Does anyone have experience with egg color from this hatchery of hatcheries in general. I have a feeling Meyer might have better stock than some hatcheries, since they just got them recently, or maybe not. I am hoping for the best, but anything can happen. I am keeping my fingers crossed!

No personal experience, but I'll tell you that Meyer is the only hatchery with BCM's (so far) and they get theirs from Gabbard Farms, who I've never heard good about. I don't know how the color of their eggs are from the Black Coppers though.

The Welsummers I'd say are likely to have the same quality as the rest from hatchery stock, but I don't know from experience.

I have heard a couple times that Meyer's Welsummers have a nice colored eggs. Physically they will not be up to the standard of perfection of the APA, but then no hatchery birds are. If you are just wanting layers and pretty pets, then they should serve the purpose.

Well, I guess I won't be getting any Marans from Meyer. They are expensive little boogers too! over $9 a piece. I kept 3 Welsummers though, just for the nice speckled eggs. I can't help but feel bad for my friend. She bought 25 BCMS from Mcmurray, when they start laying I am afraid she will be disapointed. I might buy hatching eggs from a breeder too. I already know of someone on here with good lines.

I bought Golden Cuckoo Maran eggs from Gabbard Farms and two hatched out of 9 eggs. The female died after 4 months but the rooster is gorgeous. I also got some Blue Orpingtons from Gabbard and they hatched at a higher rate and are gorgeous. Has anyone gotten Welsummers from Meyer?

I want to order some but am not sure where to get them. Live in VA.
