In hind sight, I made a mistake. Without thinking, I stuck 1 fertile chicken egg and 1 fertile duck egg under my broody. Later, I realized that the chick hatches at 21 days, but the duck at 24. Will the hen stay on the duck egg after the chick has hatched?
I candled the eggs at 14 days. The duck is definately active and moving with good veining. The chick just appears as a dark mass that floats to the top and I don't see any veining. Could the chick be viable?
I figure that my options are:
1. To just see what happens and risk losing the duck if the hen gets up after the chick hatches.
2. I have one friend with a hen sitting on eggs due the day before my chicken egg. Should I move my egg to her hen so at least the due dates are closer?
3. I have another friend running an incubator right now. Should I move one of the eggs to her incubator?
Please advise. I;m so distressed and I;ll never make this mistake again!
