I'm looking to hatch some chicks next year with my two Buff Orpingtons. Are Buff Orpingtons good broody hens? And how to encourage them to go broody, Thanks for all the help.
My Buffs: Are 1 1/2 years old, lay regularly, And fed laying pellets. Hope the info helps :)

I had a Buff go broody and she made a wonderful mom. About the same age as yours.

I really dont think you can make them go broody, instinct tells them when it is time. I would put some fake eggs in the nest and leave them there. If she decides to go broody you will know it, she turns into broodzilla and puffs up like a blowfish when you try and put your hand near her!

Broodiness is contagious so when and if she does go broody dont be surprised when another copies her. I have 5 broodys right now and am running out of room! HELP MEEEEEEEEE!!!
