Hatching coturnix quail with a 5% success rate. What am I doing wrong?

How old are the birds? Their lifespan is short enough that they are really only good as breeders for a year, maybe two max.
If you want to try again in the Spring, just give us a holler... there are plenty of eggs to go around.

I can't add anything that hasn't already been said.

1 male to 2 females is a good ratio I believe. They aren't like chickens.

I think I have 5 males and 4 females. I know I had 3 males and 1 female, but of the 5 I recently aquired, I think I only have 1 additional male. I would like to get the ratio to 3:1 or possibly 4:1. I plan on using them mostly for egg production so fertility doesn't matter too much to me except when it's time to replenish my laying stock.
