I’d like to sell some hatching eggs, but want to make sure I’m collecting and storing them right. What is the best way to collect, clean, and store hatching eggs so I don’t harm the embryos and end up with happy customers? Also, how long can you store hatching eggs? Thanks!

Make sure nest boxes are clean, don’t wash eggs, store in a cool place fat side up. Oh and date eggs according to collection date. Are you shipping or selling locally? If shipping then eggs shouldn’t be older than 2 days at time of shipping. Local pickup can be older since they probably won’t spend much time sitting around prior to incubation, maybe 7-10 days? find out when they are planning to set the eggs.

Thanks for the help! What’s a good, cool temp; 50-60F? And do I need to turn the eggs and if so, how often? I’d like to keep my sales local and requested a lead time before orders to make sure they are picked fresh.

I keep mine in the basement and it’s slightly cooler than room temp. I’d say high 60’s. Don’t want them cold but also not so warm that they start developing.
I don’t turn them. I collect eggs for 10 days and pick the best to incubate.

Short term mine go in egg cartons, longer storage I put them right in an auto turner in a cool room. Fat end up. For personal incubation collecting from trios I've stored eggs in turner up to 3 weeks without issue.
