Is it a bad idea to hatch fertile eggs from really old hen?
I only have one brown egg layer, and she's very old (I'm not sure how old since I got her from someone else and she told me that when she got the hen, the hen was very old!) I'm amazed that she still lays eggs at her age, but she lays one every other day and they are nice and big!
I wanted some offspring from her before she dies, and I've tried hatching some of her eggs twice now. I've only gotten one chick out of her eggs! I have four more in the bator now and the other breeds of chicks hatched with no problems, but the old ladies eggs aren't hatching.
Could it be her age? Her eggs are fertile, but could there be something wrong with them since she's such an old hen?
