I've never seen this question before, I have some young RIR"s I just bought an incubator. I am really excited about hatching some eggs. So I was wondering when my hens start laying
how soon I can use them for hatching chicks? I know that when they frist start laying the eggs are a little smaller. Can You hatch them? Has anyone tried this? thanks

I've had my pullets hatch their first clutch and I got an acceptable hatch rate

First question that needs to be asked is, did you get all pullets or did you get a roo also...

As for the size of eggs, people on here have successfully hatched pullet eggs but it is best to wait at least a few weeks after they start laying so they can get all the kinks out... Sometimes you can get some really weird eggs when they first start...

I hatched TWO first laid eggs in my New Years Hatch. I was amazed.
