Hi all - I am on day 21 of my hatch. One hatched last night, filmed it from the first bit of shell breaking off after external pip (about 24 hrs) to breakout - 17 minutes. Came home to another freshly hatched chick today - external pip about 24 hrs. prior. Another egg had the same pip yesterday about the same size, but when I got home and the new chick was out, this particular egg had only zipped about half way. I saw it was alive and struggling to get out, watched that go on for hours, being half out. It’s out now, but right away I saw blood on his behind and these weird, dark spots on the inside of the shell. It looks like little mold specks. They aren’t moving, I thought the could be tiny bugs. What is going on here? I didn’t know if this was an emergency, I thought better safe ..

Oh my gosh, I’m freaking out. This doesn’t look like anything I’ve encountered. There is clearly blood in there. She’s moving and peeping but dragging this shell around with what looks like yolk still. 🥺

Leave it. That's the imbilical cord. It will either finish and fall off itself on it's own or the chick wasn't meant to make it

I couldn’t tell you that. She is moving around and making noise, this is probably now an hour since she’s been out.
Good, you're not touching anything.
I know it's very tempting to want to touch and help, but she'll move about, yell her head off, sleep and repeat.
Sometimes the shell can still be attached to the cord, leave it to dry up.

Hopefully all will go well!

Truly I have just not seen that thick of a cord before, then with those small black dots, I was sure some kind of undiscovered chick egg viral blood sucking vampire mite had permeated all my eggs. Oh, the imagination I have 🤯 She will sleep in the incubator tonight, I’m sure she will be ready to join her sisters in the brooder in the morning. If not, well, nature. She is very active and vocal. Thank you 😊

I hope everything is going well, when I hatched chicks in April one of my chicks was attached to its cord for about 10 hours and were doing fine. Please update us on the little cute chick😊
