Hatching in egg cartons

I do...every hatch.

I just love it. When the chicks hatch, they fall/jump out of the egg carton. The remaining eggs are able to remain in the correct position without the hatched chicks playing egg-bowling in the incubator.

I have tried this method and did not have good luck with it. But, I only hatch shipped eggs, so it may have been this batch was not well taken care of by the post office. I did have to help a couple of chicks out, they didn't seem to be able to get their shells off as well (they were Marans and have a difficult time anyways)...so who knows. It may have been fine and just my set of circumstances...But, I won't use that method again.

On the flip side, I have read numerous posts praising hatching in the egg cartons.

You should try both ways and determine which works best for you.

I've done it both ways and will tell you that hatching in cartons is wonderful! It's much less clean up work and I've always had good results with it. Just be certain to use paper cartons.

It's day 18 for me so it's time to take out the egg turner so I was wondering if I should put the eggs in a
carton or just lay them in the bottom.
