I have two duck eggs incubating, I do not know the breed, day 28 will be late Monday night/early Tuesday. One egg pipped on Thursday night and has not hatched, every 24 hours a little more shell is gone, he is very vocal, the whole is about the size of a nickel, I can see his beak and chest, he pushes at it once in awhile, his breathing is at a "slow one mississippi"? The other egg was moving and peeping yesterday and silent and still today. These eggs were in a hatch of chicks and quail of wich one chick and one quail hatched early. The temp. in the incubator is dry at 99/wet at 89. The silent egg seems to be getting darker since yesterday. Any help would be appreciated.

Hello, well im kinda new at this too but from my experience and Ive had a lot lately with geese eggs and duck. sometimes it takes them longer to hatch but you want to make sure the humidity is higher at the end. did you sprinkle water on the eggs a couple days before hatch? I know with geese eggs the shell is very tough and sometimes i had to help them or they would have died in the egg like some of mine have. I know they say the rule is to let nature take its course but i never could do that very well LOL! just watch them and as long as it is making some progress it should be ok. if no changes and no peeping then i suggest you help it out carefully. hope this helps. Good luck.

Thanks for answering, I thought no one would. I ended up helping him so he is up and running now. One of his feet was messed up, toes curled and it would not open up. I made a little duck boot, taped the toes straight, I left it on about 4-6 hours and it worked great! His name is Rascal and he ate dinner with us last night, today he enjoyed the grass and water, now he is sleeping with his stuffed dog all cozy. My other egg did not hatch and it was fine last candling, I am strting to think it is a Muscovy egg and needs more time but I have not turned it in 3 days...any advice on that??? Thanks.

Do you have any way of finding out if it is a Muscovy egg? I have zero experience, and am only 4 days into my first attempt to hatch eggs, but if I thought is was a Muscovy I would start turning again. After what I accidently put one of my chicken eggs through, I am thinking anything is possible.
