I just added 8 browns to my flock and they are already laying. I don't have an incubator yet so I got the idea to stick some eggs under my Cuckoo Marans hen. She's ALWAYS broody (I don't know how she even survives lol). Anyways, does anybody else do this?

I asked about that a year or two ago and was given a big thumbs down. IIRC, and my memory ain't hot, they said a broody bantam might work?

Quail eggs shells are pretty delicate. Sure the membranes are tough, but the shells, not so much. Even a banty could break them. That, however, isn't the biggest issue. Chickens have natural immunity to certain diseases that quail do not. The chickens can be carriers of disease and infect the quail.

I have read that a standard hen like a Marans crushed quail eggs. No experience, just something I read here.

Forget this notion.

Well, SandraMort called it lol. To be honest, I'll probably still try because I'm hard-headed lol. I appreciate the info.

Heh. I'm hardheaded too, so I totally understand. I'm SO tempted to see if I can find a broody bantam to try to hatch coturnix, but I really have no space for one.
